   Listeners may be quite familiar with Carl Maria von Weber's overture to his masterpiece Der Freischütz and well acquainted with his overtures to Euryanthe and Oberon; but the remaining works on this EMI Encore reissue are fairly obscure. The singspiel Abu Hassan, and incidental music for the play Preciosa have long been forgotten, except for their seldom-played overtures, which amount to little more than 7/

   Unlike Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream, which depicts three worlds (the supernatural, the human, and the chthonic), Weber's Oberon Overture is a celebration of the supernatural realm: while sounds from the human world may approach the confines of Oberon's realm, the fundamental Oberon motif defines the boundaries of the fantastic world into which Weber transports his listeners. .

   Misc. Notes This file is part of the Sibley Mirroring Project. The edition with a different Title Page appears to be an older one, but the score is the same (with a less cramped layout), n.d., with Plate (or Collection Litolff - this mention not yet made) number

   Oberon, or The Elf King's Oath (J. ) is a 3-act romantic opera in English with spoken dialogue; the music is by Carl Maria von caygiocromchanmangcons.bigsnonabermalinmucelrobilamcess.co libretto by James Robinson Planché was based on the German poem Oberon by Christoph Martin Wieland, which itself was based on the epic romance Huon de Bordeaux, a French medieval tale.. Against his doctor's advice, Weber undertook the project .

   As an overture composer Weber was only a notch below his contemporaries Beethoven 'n Rossini. His best overtures, Oberon, Der Freischutz, have long been standard repertoire but this CD also includes his lesser known, and harder to find overtures, every one of /5(11).
